February is Heart Health Awareness Month

Published by Kenneth A. Miller

What’s the number one cause of death for both men and women in the United States? Believe it or not, it’s heart disease. According to the Heart Foundation, the disease kills around 1 million people annually. February is Heart Health Awareness month, so we wanted to take this time to shed some light on the disease. As disability lawyers in Tennessee, the Law Offices of Kenneth Miller & Associates want to play our part in helping you get the compensation you deserve for your heart problems.

If you have heart problems, it’s important to keep in mind the severity of the problem. Even if you don’t meet the criteria for total disability, it’s still possible to receive compensation.

Heart Problems that Qualify for Disability

  • Chronic Heart Failure: This is also called congestive heart failure. The blood flow from your heart needs to be functioning at 30 percent capacity to be classified as completely disabled. You also must demonstrate your heart condition causes you pain while you aren’t exerting yourself.
  • Chronic Venous Insufficiency: Hearts with this condition aren’t able to pump blood from the legs to the heart, resulting in swelling, trouble standing and painful ulcers. To qualify for Social Security Disability, your ulcers must last longer than three months.
  • Recurrent Arrhythmias: This means you have an irregular heartbeat, whether it beats slowly or quickly. Your condition must cause you to pass out or come close to passing out frequently.
  • Ischemic Heart Disease: Your arteries cause this pre-heart attack condition, as you have poor oxygen flow from your blood stream. Poor stress test or angiographies usually diagnose this condition.

If you are suffering from a heart disease, our disability lawyers in Tennessee can give you the help you need. Call us at 856-637-0515 or visit our website today.
