May is Mental Health Month

Published by Kenneth A. Miller

In honor of mental health month, our disability lawyers in Tennessee wanted to shed light on mental health and the debilitating effects it has on people both nationally and globally. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 43.8 million adults experience mental illness in a given year, meaning 1 in 5 adults experience it. From physical to mental to psychological effects, if you suffer from a mental illness, you may find yourself unable to work. If this is the case for you or a loved one, you may be entitled to Social Security Disability.

Celebrate Mental Health Month

This year, the theme for mental health month is fitness. Physical health is directly related to mental health. Make sure your diet, exercise routine, sleep cycle and stress levels are properly managed. There’s also a gut-brain connection that is extremely important to mental illness. However, not all people are able to properly manage their mental illness, which may make it difficult for them to work.

Covered Illnesses

The Social Security Blue Book covers a wide range of mental illnesses, including things like schizophrenia, paranoia, psychotic disorders, affective disorders, mental retardation, anxiety-related disorders, somatoform disorders, personality disorders such as bipolar or autistic disorder and other developmental disorders. As you can see, this is an overarching list that doesn’t cover every specific disorder or illness. If you have questions about your specific case, contact our disability lawyer in Tennessee. Our lawyers at the Law Offices of Kenneth Miller & Associates want to help you get the compensation you deserve!
