What to Do If You’re Denied

Published by Kenneth A. Miller

Millions of Americans apply for Social Security Disability benefits every year with the assumption that their applications will be approved. Given all of the time and energy that goes into the application process, it’s no wonder that people are so invested. Unfortunately, over 60% of applicants are denied by the Social Security Administration (SSA). If you’ve been denied, don’t lose hope. Our Social Security attorney in Oak Ridge can help you move forward.

Appeal

You have sixty days from the letter of denial date to file for a reconsideration appeal. The SSA will conduct another complete review of your case plus any additional evidence that has been submitted. If your claim is denied again, you may request a hearing with an Administrative Law Judge to present your case. This is often the best way to present your situation, and nearly two-thirds of applicants are awarded benefits at their hearing.

Hire A Lawyer

By working with an experienced lawyer, you can be sure that your case is being properly evaluated and someone is fighting for your rights. According to a 2017 Government Accounting Office study, claimants were three times more likely to be approved for benefits than someone with no representation.

Many people choose not to hire an attorney due to the cost typically associated with legal help. Thankfully, there is good news. It doesn’t cost you anything up-front or out-of-pocket to obtain legal services from a Social Security attorney in Oak Ridge. Contact the Law Offices of Kenneth Miller & Associates today for a free consultation.
